Quick answer

The latest stable version of MSI Afterburner is 4.6.6, and 4.6.7 is available as a beta. Both are free and both bundle RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS). For most people the stable 4.6.6 build is the right pick; grab it from the download page.

Step-by-step guide

  1. 1

    Decide: stable or beta

Choose 4.6.6 stable unless you specifically need the newer curve-editor tools or own very new hardware — then try 4.6.7 beta. Note that beta builds can carry an expiry date; stable builds never do.
  2. 2

    Download from this site

Use the button on our download page to get the installer directly. Extract the ZIP (about 53 MB) and run the setup file inside.
  3. 3

    Keep RivaTuner checked

During install, leave RTSS ticked so you get the in-game overlay and FPS counter.
  4. 4

    Confirm the version

Open Afterburner, click the info/settings area, and check the version string so you know whether you are on 4.6.6 or 4.6.7.

What is new in 4.6.7

The 4.6.7 line focuses on the Voltage/Frequency Curve Editor used for overclocking and undervolting. Highlights include thermal curve analysis (recording how the curve shifts per degree), curve import and export to a text file, reference-temperature tracking, and experimental monitoring for newer AMD Ryzen 9000 and Intel Arrow Lake CPUs. It also upgrades RivaTuner to v7.3.7, which adds DirectX 12 overlay support, PresentMon and NVIDIA Reflex latency readouts.

The VC++ 2022 change

Recent builds were rebuilt with the VC++ 2022 compiler. Two practical effects: the installer downloads a small Microsoft runtime during setup (so you need an internet connection), and Afterburner no longer runs on Windows XP. Everything from Windows 7 to 11 is supported.

Which should you download?

If you want maximum stability and a build that never expires, take 4.6.6. If you want the newest curve tools or have brand-new hardware that the stable build does not fully recognise, take 4.6.7. You can always switch later.

Frequently asked questions

Is 4.6.7 better than 4.6.6? +
Not necessarily. 4.6.7 has newer tuning features, but it is a beta and may expire. 4.6.6 is the safe, stable default for most users.
Is the latest version free? +
Yes. Every version of MSI Afterburner is completely free, with no paid tier.
Does the beta expire? +
Beta builds sometimes include an expiry date. Final and stable builds do not.
Will it work on my old PC? +
It runs on Windows 7 and up. Only Windows XP support was dropped in recent builds.
